5月26日，煙草巨頭菲利普莫里斯國際（Philip Morris International, PMI）CEO雅克·奧爾扎克（Jacek Olczak）在接受法新社采訪時表示：Stopping the sale of traditional cigarettes will "make Philip Morris look better" but not affect the one billion smokers who can "continue buying a product from somebody else"

停止傳統卷煙銷售會使PMI“增光添彩”，但不會對全球10億煙民造成影響，因為他們“仍可以從其他公司買到卷煙”。

因此，與其停售卷煙，他希望："convince the governments... (to) allow the alternatives and we can start reducing the sale of cigarettes much faster."

“說服（各國）政府……允許卷煙替代品的出現，這樣PMI就能開始更快地減少卷煙銷售?！?/p>

Jacek在采訪中重申，菲莫國際的目標是“無煙未來”。

英國非政府組織吸煙與健康行動（Action on Smoking and Health, ASH）的負責人黛博拉?阿諾特（Deborah Arnott）告訴法新社，“我們相信含尼古丁的電子煙能夠幫助成年吸煙者戒煙，正如世衛組織認可尼古丁替代療法一樣”。然而，Arnott反對PMI大力推廣其新產品，“因為他們仍然是煙草產品，PMI的唯一目標是保護其未來的收入流”。
